Since joining the army and spending the first 6 years of his career in the maritime industry, Luke Lim realised that the key to doing a great job (and enjoying a great job) is in having a positive attitude. Many of his previous employers would pick eager and passionate newbies over dispirited and negative veterans, a practice that he fully agrees with.
Well-known for his meticulous and detailed planning, Luke has successfully tackled many complex and difficult cases. In particular, one case stood out greatly:
A sole breadwinner turning 55 with a special needs child had sought his help to offload his HDB apartment. Business was bad and he had a pile of red mortgage reminders.
Once engaged, Luke formulated a clear step-by-step plan to get him out of his sticky situation. They approached numerous government agencies as well as several law firms—all on an immensely tight schedule and budget. Ultimately, Luke’s plan succeeded and he managed to help his client sell his HDB and move to another home.
While being hungry and hustling hard is an essential part of being an RES, the LLA also stresses the importance of staying humble and empathetic. Although it is his job to help people plan, structure and execute their property agendas, Luke feels that he has learned much more valuable information and knowledge just listening to his clients from all walks of life.
It is this ability to listen, learn and adapt that Luke strives to impart to his team on top of his systematic approach to all the skills and knowledge that an RES needs.
The life of an RES is full of difficulties. This is why it is important to have a supportive environment that encourages growth and learning. Teaching and supporting a positive attitude is essential to the LLA, as Luke believes that attitude is what impacts the quality of your work and the people around you.
On top of that, Luke organises regular team training and sharing sessions on digital marketing, networking and script reading. He aims to provide his team with a wholistic course of information, technique and perspective, pushing them to be both better RES and people.
“We rise by lifting others. Seeing how we can nurture our teammates to achieve their personal goals and have a positive impact on the lives of others is what gives me the greatest sense of achievement.”
